Al Taylor: Man or Myth?
Where will he turn up Next?

Al Taylor is a man of many hats (one of which is visible at left). The man is near legend now, mainly since he is holed up in a place known as Whittakers, North Carolina, where human beings are scarce, myths are made, and animals tend to run wild. He is parts maven, weekend race warrior, Internet trader, and one of the nicest guys anyone could ever meet (of course, I haven't met Al yet, but these are vicious rumors).

Al just plain loves cars. He loves them so much, he has amassed quite a collection in his back yard; everything from Abarths to MGs to every BMW known to man. From this parts mass, Al has developed a company called Al Taylor Sports Cars, Inc. where he sells parts for many BMWs as well as other makes. The man has enough wheels to outfit a small Euro police force and is always running specials listed on his company site at bottom right.

But Al gets a special listing here because he happens to be one of the only lunatics actively racing a BMW Bavaria in the United States (the man also has Style as evidenced by photos). AL purchased his 72 Bavaria for an undisclosed price and it already had a 3.5 litre powerplant and 5 speed! All AL needed to do was throw on a race-ready paint job, attach his "hey ya'll, watch this" sticker to rear window, and spend an estimated 200 hours tinkering with suspension, brakes, wheels, roll cage, and everything else prone to break as he slung this heavy beast around any asphalt that would have him! He has already lightened the car considerably and is looking for the right combination to land him in the winner's circle. Please visit AL's track reports at the links to right. Both Virginia and PA held high drama that you don't want to miss. And the words are from AL HIMSELF!

Please visit his site at right for a complete listing of parts or drop him an email. Bookmark this page for more updates on Al's adventures on the track.

Look for Al and his full race Bavaria at the Brumos Savannah Historic Races at Roebling Road, Savannah Georgia on October 22-24, 1999.
