1980 De Rosa Professional ~ Ken Lyon Custom

Ken Lyon's Custom De Rosa History

it's a 50.5 c-c (52 c-c tt), standard geometry derosa professional SL that i special ordered* on recommendation by my coach at the time, in late sept. 79 and delivered in early 1980 (late jan/early feb?). (*Stocked sizes were in 1 cm steps with 1/2 cm increments & custom fitments by special order.) the finish colour was left up to derosa but i requested it be 'classy' rather than flashy or loud - the colour they sent was called 'ambrosia'- it's a sort of a dark olive brown with a fine gold mist overspray that changes its tone with the light, sometimes appearing nearly black, sometimes olive green , brown or pewter gray.

Components
Campagnolo SR Rear derailleur, NR front derailleur, clamp-on
S/R crankset,52T panto/41T(Gipiemme) & Edco Competition Btm-bkt,Ti crankarm fixing bolts
S/R Ti pedals, Campy alloy clips, Cinelli straps
S/R headset, S/R seatpost

Record hi-flange hubset ,36 hole/Mavic Module E clinchers / DT ss 14 ga. X3

Suntour New Winner ultra 7 spd 13-23 FW / Sedisport silver
Silca pump w/ Campy head,O.M.A.S. cage & original Derosa bottle(last survivor of the 3 that came with the frameset)
San Marco Regal Girardi perforated saddle(originally Concor Supercorsa Max-changed in '86- still have the Concor, btw)

Guessing the total mileage at somewhere around 60-65K as I've never had a computer mounted on it. It was always my "nice" bike so it rarely was raced nor has it ever seen a whole lot of winter/wet rides.A NR equipped Colnago Super was my beater race/rain bike for most of the early 80's.This past year the derosa saw more mileage than my next 3 favorite bikes put together(fwiw- using cleated shoes, clips & straps).

It's pretty much all original or as originally built, save the saddle, several swaps of crankarm lengths with the fashions of the time(currently 170's but still have the original 167.5's), many freewheels and have gone thru several stems/bars over the years(originally came with a 100 mm 3TTT record 78 panto & 42cm 3TTT Super Competizione Merckx bars which i managed to break). I also swapped out the original straight band, 4 hole campy n.record front derailleur early on because i thought it ugly- a mistake i guess from the collector's viewpoint. luckily, i have no intention of ever letting her go so that won't be an issue,eh? Current wheelset is my original training clincher set, now using veloflex pave's- have yet to rebuild my original tubular wheelset which were Campy record 32 hole low flange /Ambrosio Crono Durex/ DT 14/15 ss spokes, x2 front & X3 driveside/X2 non-drive,tied & soldered rear-normally with clement criterium setas, cottons in a pinch.
